Despite the resignation, the technocrat ministers are still in charge
Due to technocrat quota, three technocrat ministers and state ministers (non-members of parliament) have submitted their resignations to the cabinet division on Sunday (November 19). They are the Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman and State Planning Minister Shamsul Alam. However, they will have to perform their duties in their own capacity until this resignation letter is accepted.
And if this resignation letter is to be accepted, it will be considered as acceptance after the Prime Minister hands it over to the President. Till then, they will do the routine work of the ministry as usual from Monday.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the resignation of the technocrat ministers in the cabinet meeting on November 6, 2018 to form the government during the election period. The four ministers submitted their resignations to the cabinet division between afternoon and evening on the same day. Their resignations will be accepted a month later, just before the official campaign for the elections began.
According to the schedule announced as such, both the ministries with full ministers of the technology sector will not remain vacant until December 18. From that day onwards the Prime Minister herself will be in charge of this ministry until the next minister is appointed.
According to sources, Cabinet Secretary. A technocrat minister and an adviser to the prime minister also submitted their resignation to Mahbub Hossain on Sunday. Confirming the submission of the resignation letter, Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Masiur Rahman told reporters that the members of the Cabinet and Advisory Council who are not members of parliament have been asked to resign.
In addition to Mosiur Rahman, Dr. Tawfiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury Advisor on Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources; Dr. Gowhar Rizvi is International Relations Advisor; Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique Security Advisor; Sajib Ahmed Wazed Information and Communication Technology Advisor and Salman Fazlur Rahman Private Industry and Investment Advisor. Among them, except Salman Fazlur Rahman, others are not members of Parliament.
On November 15, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the 12th parliamentary elections. According to the announced schedule, nomination papers can be submitted till November 30, and the analysis will be held from December 1 to 4. And the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is December 17. Besides, after the withdrawal of candidature, the symbols will be allotted on December 18. In this case, 14 days have been given for submission of nomination papers and 19 days for campaigning. Campaigning should end 48 hours before polling. That is, from December 18 to January 5, there will be an opportunity to campaign for votes. The last vote will be held on January 7.
